I have reached Silver Medallion status on Delta this year. It doesn't get me much - but for one day yesterday it did. I was upgraded to Delta Comfort+ seating, and got to board with Sky priority. Both were little things, but both were enjoyable. Both will help keep me loyal to Delta.
In an odd way, my current status will also keep me from wanting to fly until early 2017 (if given the choice). There is no real way I can make gold medallion, and I get silver for all of 2017. If given the choice of flying in mid-December or early January - the trip will occur in January. That way the miles will apply to my 2018 status and either keep me at silver, or push me to gold.
One thing I don't want: A sense of entitlement that can come with the status. The guy seated next to me bitched about the fact we were delayed the whole time. This despite noting that he hadn't had a delay for a very long time through Atlanta. (This guy is one of the reasons I wear noise canceling headphones). Just to make sure the flight crew knew he was mad he bitched at them on the way out - because apparently flight attendants have something to do with plane maintenance and/or the weather in Cincinnati.
